New Year's Fun
Happy 2009!!!
Here's a little something I wrote on my facebook and thought I would share here, too. Just for fun!
Rated MA: Violence
Many people have claimed that children turn to violent behavior based on the video games they play or the things they watch on TV. I claim that violence is promoted much earlier than that, as early as the 1st year of life. Naomi recently got a book of nursery rhymes for Christmas, and I was a little disturbed by what parents are filling the minds of their little kids with...see below :o)
"There was an old woman"
There was an old woman who lived in a shoe,
She had so many children, she didn't know what to do.
She gave them some broth without any bread,
THEN WHIPPED THEM ALL SOUNDLY and put them to bed.
"Goosey Gooesy Gander"
Goosey Goosey Gander, whither shall I wander?
Upstairs and downstairs and in my lady's chamber.
There I met an old man who would not say his prayers,
I TOOK HIM BY THE LEFT LEG AND THREW HIM DOWN THE STAIRS. (Is this what the Bible says to do to people who won't pray???)
"The Queen of Hearts"
The Queen of Hearts
She made some tarts,
All on a summer's day.
The Knave of Hearts,
He stole the tarts,
And took them clean away.
The King of Hearts
Called for the tarts,
AND BEAT THE KNAVE FULL SORE.
The Knave of Hearts
Brought back the tarts,
And vowed he'd steal no more.
What?!
Not to mention the other depressing and somewhat frightening themes that are common to many familiar nursery rhymes.
"Little Miss Muffet"
Little Miss Muffet sat on a tuffet,
Eating her curds and whey.
Along came a spider,
Who sat down beside her
And FRIGHTENED MISS MUFFET AWAY.
"Rock-a-bye Baby"
Rock-a-bye baby, on the tree top.
When the wind blows, the cradle will rock,
When the bough breaks, the cradle will fall,
DOWN WILL COME BABY, CRADLE AND ALL.
"Old Mother Hubbard"
Old Mother Hubbard went to the cupboard,
To get her poor dog a bone.
But when she got there,
The cupboard was bare,
AND SO THE POOR DOG HAD NONE. (Poor, poor dog...how depressing is this???)
"Jack and Jill"
Jack and Jill went up the hill,
To fetch a pail of water.
JACK FELL DOWN AND BROKE HIS CROWN
AND JILL CAME TUMBLING AFTER.
"Humpty Dumpty"
Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall,
HUMPTY DUMPTY HAD A GREAT FALL.
All the King's horses and all the King's men,
COULDN'T PUT HUMPTY TOGETHER AGAIN.
This is just a small sample of the filth invading the minds of a our young, innocent little babies. Are they just cute little rhymes or are they violent propaganda to corrupt children when they are the most permeable? You decide.
:o)
